Design Process
Traditional glass spoon pipes are inherently simple, but leave the cleaning and carrying experience unresolved. Early Handpipe designs explored travel-friendly ideas like smell-concealment, herb storage, and easy ashing. Detachable parts were developed to allow disassembly for easy cleaning, and particular care was taken to make sure that despite their remove-ability they press fit back in place with precise tight-fitting snugness. As an at-home smoking companion, consideration towards making the Handpipe a displayable object led to the idea of making a stand to hold the bowl. The stand and cap for the bowl eventually merged into one part that seamlessly trades off between these two modes of use.

Designed to provide a seamless on-the-go session experience, with a storage cap that magnetically seals over the bowl for taking herb to go inside.

In travel mode the Handpipe is completely smell-discreet, providing peace of mind from suspicious noses when carrying it on trips. The steel poker tool, which helps clear ash from the bowl, holsters into the end of the mouthpiece when not in-use where it blocks smells from escaping at that end.
Thoroughly Considered
No point of interaction went ignored, including how to hold the pipe steady while loading it. The magnetic cap doubles as a stand for the bowl when placed on the base. This gravity defying stance gives the pipe an intriguing presence when on display at home.
Smoke quality is a product of how well the pipe cools and filters within, which was designed in at multiple levels including by allowing the mouthpiece to hold Carbon Filters. Each traps particulates and harmful compounds, resulting in cleaner and smoother hits.
Cleaning is made easy by the Handpipe's modular assembly, which comes apart to allow access to the interior for routine scrubbing.
Materials and Variations
Glass pipes are notoriously breakable and require a hardshell case to carry safely. In reality, most people want to stow one in their bag or pocket without much concern for it's survival. The Handpipe introduces a fusion of safe-for-smoke materials inside surrounded by lasting impact-resistant materials outside. It is a first of it's kind that withstands any environment without compromising on purity of taste.
Color and material variations were introduced to reflect urban, natural, and high-end-modern tastes, each upholding the same high standard for material safety and durability.
Accessories Ecosystem
A set of trays, storage jars, grinder, and ashtray were designed to compliment the Handpipe and provide a display worthy all-in-one solution for sessions at home.
Additional accessories include carbon filters that block harmful particulates and fit inside the mouthpiece, a smell-proof carrying pouch for taking the pipe and other essentials on-the-go, cotton cleaning swabs, and a lighter-tool bundle.
Content Production
I created a large library of photo, video, and CG marketing content for the Handpipe, showcasing it's harmonious design with everyday life.
On a limited small business budget I worked in nearly all capacities; as model and location scout, shoot director, camera operator, lighting-set-product and model stylist, and post-production editor.
In accompaniment, I designed and produced high-converting shopify website pages with attention demanding copywriting for smokeheir.com.
